Emergency Relief for Palliative Care Patients Affected by Flooding in Kilinochchi District
Recent devastation due to unprecedented flooding…
The Kilinochchi district in Sri Lanka was devastated by severe flooding on November 27, 2024, displacing 1,727 people and affecting 505 families. Among the hardest hit are 250 palliative care patients across four health divisions—Karachchi, Kandawalai, Palai, and Poonagary—who are bedridden due to chronic illnesses. Unable to relocate, they face cold exposure, heightened disease risks, and resource shortages, leaving them and their caregivers in dire need of assistance.
Urgent relief efforts are crucial to provide food, medical supplies, and other essentials, ensuring their survival and dignity. This intervention will address immediate needs while strengthening disaster response systems, prioritizing vulnerable populations often overlooked in emergencies.
